'A Sea of Children and Youth': Whitmire's Years of Prayer Met Their Weekend
Follow-up: the small South Carolina town that prayed for revival for years saw young people flood the altar, baptisms all weekend, and churches working as one
The short answer
During World Harvest Ministry's crusade in Whitmire, South Carolina on 26–27 September 2026, large numbers of children and young people responded at the altar and baptisms continued throughout the weekend, according to CBN News. Evangelist Jacob Ebersole described it as a crusade that would 'mark you forever'; families reported salvations across generations, a woman reportedly walked without her walker for the first time in eight years, and organisers are discussing a 'Small Town Movement' for South Carolina.
Last week we wrote about Whitmire, South Carolina — a town of about 1,400 people that had been praying for revival for years, and whose mayor believed God had planned that weekend's crusade two years in advance.
The crusade came on 26–27 September. Here is what CBN News reports happened.
What They Saw
A World Harvest prayer leader described the altar as "a sea of children and youth" crying out to God. Altar calls ran long. Baptisms continued throughout the weekend.
Evangelist **Jacob Ebersole**, who preached, put it this way: *"There are crusades you remember, and then there are crusades that mark you forever. I believe Whitmire was one of those moments."*
Families reported salvations across generations — parents and children responding together. One woman who had depended on a walker for eight years was reported walking without it.
The Line Worth Remembering
Ebersole's other observation may be the more important one: *"We watched the Body of Christ become the Body of Christ."*
That is a statement about the churches, not the crowd. In a town of 1,400, there is no room for congregations to compete. What organisers describe is cooperation — churches, families and local leaders working together — and it is the single feature most consistently associated with awakenings that last.
What Comes Next
Organisers are now discussing a **"Small Town Movement"** to carry the same approach to other South Carolina communities.
That is the right instinct, and it comes with the right test. The crusade has left town. Whether Whitmire becomes a story people still tell in ten years depends on what happens this week: whether the young people baptised on Saturday are in a church on Sunday, whether the prayer meetings that preceded the crusade keep meeting after it.
Why We Follow Up
News usually reports the announcement and never the outcome. We think readers deserve both — the expectation and what came of it — and we will keep reporting Whitmire as it unfolds.
Whitmire prayed for years, and when the crusade came, children and youth filled the altar and the town's churches worked as one. The real test is whether it continues now the crusade has gone.
Biblical Perspective
Joel's promise of the Spirit poured out on sons and daughters is a promise about the young, and Jesus rebuked those who tried to keep children away from Him. Scripture also ties lasting fruit to unity — Jesus prayed that His followers would be one so that the world would believe. A town whose churches act as one body is fertile ground for exactly that.
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
— Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
Pray With Us
Lord, thank You for answering years of prayer in Whitmire. Keep every child and young person who responded. Give their families and churches wisdom to disciple them. Keep the churches of Whitmire united, and if it is Your will, carry this to small towns across South Carolina and beyond. Amen.
