What Baptism Actually Is
Baptism is the public act by which a person identifies with Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. Paul describes it in exactly those terms: buried with Him, raised to walk in new life.
Three things follow from that.
1. **It is public on purpose.** Baptism is not a private feeling. It is a declaration in front of witnesses. That is one reason beaches and lakes suit it — and one reason it has always carried social cost where faith is unpopular. 2. **It is a beginning, not a finish line.** Jesus' command was to make disciples, *baptising them* and *teaching them to obey*. Movement or Moment?
A baptism count is easy to celebrate and easy to misread. Honest questions to ask of any large baptism event:
- **Who follows up?** Are names connected to a local church within a week? - **Is there teaching?** Is a new believer shown how to read Scripture, pray and resist temptation? - **Is it repeating?** Year-on-year growth at the same place is a stronger signal than one enormous day. - **Are lives changing in ways others notice?** That is the test Scripture uses.
By those measures, the local-church records — Eleven22 three years running, Biltmore two years running — are the most encouraging data points of all.
If You Have Believed But Never Been Baptised
Talk to your church. Most will gladly walk you through it, and many hold baptisms regularly. In Acts, people were baptised the same day they believed. Delay is common; it is rarely necessary.

Biblical Perspective
Romans 6 describes baptism as being buried with Christ and raised with Him to new life.
