The attack Kim went to cover was not the end of it. Roughly five miles from that site, a pastor and a church worker were killed and the pastor's son was left critically wounded. Five Christians had been killed in the same region the day before. Across several days, thirteen deaths.
Separate reporting from September recorded at least **31 Christians killed** in attacks on predominantly Christian villages in Plateau State, including an infant of three months.
Why This Story Is Hard to Tell
There is a reason Nigeria does not hold international attention the way other conflicts do, and it is not that the numbers are smaller. Open Doors' 2026 World Watch List recorded 3,490 Christians killed in Nigeria — around 72 percent of the global total.
The reason is that it never resolves into a single event. It is a village, then a road, then a farm, then a church, week after week, for years. Newsrooms are built to cover ruptures. Nigeria is attrition.
Attrition does not produce a day the world stops. It produces a slow accumulation that is easier not to look at.
What Masara Kim Is Doing
Which is what makes the reporter part of this story matter as much as the casualty figures.
Kim is a Nigerian Christian journalist driving toward the sound of gunfire so that the rest of the church has something to look at. He was shot at for it and went back to work.
